About
Whilst studying to become a Psychotherapist I realised how important it is that people develop mechanisms to manage their emotional dilemmas – and one of my favourites has always been learning how to dance…
Since I was little, Salsa music was always there. Mi mama (mother) used to play it all the time: while cooking, while cleaning and just when she wanted to have fun. In Venezuela, at every party, birthday, wedding, school concert, even public buses, salsa music and dance was present. I could just hear the stories of the songs, the rhythms and I was already telling the story with my body. Dancing even without any training and just following the nature of the rhythm is where I learned how to be more myself, and where I was free. It was the first method of venting that I learned from little.
Dancing has always been the best companion – especially Salsa dancing!
So, you can imagine my surprise when 25 years later (when I started living abroad) I learned that not everyone was naturally in tune with it!
The connection that I have with the music and dance, and what it created in my life – combined with being a clinical psychologist – is what inspired me to create a space where people of all different ages and cultures can come together and share a joyous, fiery, educational, and exciting experience through the universal language of Latin dance.
We believe that to learn how to dance is also an opportunity to learn more about your personality and to develop skills that will help you in every aspect of your life, the same way it has helped us. Dance has introduced me to my best friends in life, my partner and my community whilst also allowing me to recognise aspects and skills of myself that I didn’t know were there.
